Abstract:Objective To comprehensively understand the current status of pinworm infection among kindergarten children in Ninghai County, explore the influencing factors, and provide scientific basis for further adjusting and promoting the prevention and control strategies of pinworm disease in children. Methods According to geographical orientation, one township from each of the east, west, south, north, and middle area was randomly selected, cluster sampling was conducted on 2 kindergartens from each township (1 village level/private kindergarten and 1 township kindergarten). From May to June, 2025, transparent adhesive tape was applied to the perianal area of children for two consecutive days. Pinworm infection was examined by microscopy. Questionnaire survey on demographic characteristics and related hygiene habits of children and their parents was conducted, and statistical analysis was performed on the collected questionnaires. Results A total of 3 077 preschool children were monitored, and 13 were found to be infected with pinworm, with an overall infection rate of 0.42%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that being in large classes and having guardians with low education levels were risk factors for pinworm disease in preschool children, while washing hands before meals was a protective factor. Conclusion Pinworm infection in preschool children in Ninghai County is at low prevalence. It is still necessary to continue to strengthen health education and carry out monitoring, so as to promote the prevention and control of pinworm disease in children.
